Saying “Yes” to Opportunity: Designing for Michael Jordan’s Grove XXIII
Sometimes in business, a “yes” or “no” can shape not only the future but the story behind every decision. An article recently featured the story of C. David Moody Jr., an inspiring Black business owner who once turned down an investment from basketball legend Michael Jordan. His decision allowed him to stay in control of his construction company, which today thrives with over $70 million in annual revenue and a legacy of high-impact commercial projects.
At Nichols Architects, we were given a different opportunity – one we gladly accepted. Years after that fateful decision by Mr. Moody, Michael Jordan once again ventured into real estate and construction, creating his own golf course in Hobe Sound, Florida. We had the privilege of saying “yes” to designing the Grove XXIII Clubhouse and Cabanas, which have become iconic for their modern elegance and seamless blend with the Florida landscape.
Both stories remind us that every business decision carries its unique path, and at Nichols Architects, we’re proud to have taken the leap with Grove XXIII, leaving a mark on one of Michael Jordan’s signature projects. We look forward to continuing to work with visionary clients who inspire us to make every design one for the history books.
