Nichols Architects’ 1450, Miami’s First Green Office Tower
Nichols Architects proudly celebrates the continued success of the 1450 Brickell Corporate Tower in Miami.
Completed in 2011 by Miami-based real estate developer Rilea Group, this 35-story, 582,817 square-foot building was promptly awarded Miami’s first LEED Gold Office Building certification. Now, after more than a decade, the remarkable results of Nichols Architects’ unwavering dedication to excellence, innovation, and building performance continue to shine through.
A striking addition to Brickell’s skyline, this building’s design is a direct response to its surroundings. Taking inspiration from the street grid of the site, the architects ingeniously used acute angles, less than 90 degrees, to create the tower’s distinctive shape, characterized by sharp angles at its apex.
Beneath its impressive glass façade lies an even more remarkable feat: a series of environmentally friendly elements were incorporated into the tower’s design, including energy-efficient systems, water conservation mechanisms, and sustainable materials, all working together to ensure a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future that ensured Miami’s first LEED Gold Certificate. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System serves as the nation’s recognized standard for designing, constructing, and operating environmentally conscious structures.
“In earning its LEED Gold certification, 1450 Brickell has set a new standard for the sustainable design and construction of new commercial office buildings in Miami,” stated Bruce Brosch, Legacy Partner at Nichols Architects. “As tenants seek opportunities to become more environmentally conscious in line with their business principles, properties like Rilea’s 1450 Brickell stand out from the competition. Recognizing this emerging trend toward green buildings and acknowledging the cost efficiencies that sustainable design brings, we set out to build Miami’s most sustainable office tower. And we are seeing the results of this commitment materialize in the form of strong leasing activity among the market’s top-tier corporate tenants.”
In addition to the 2011 LEED Gold certification, the project’s positive impact has also granted it a Building of the Year in 2012 by the Urban Land Institute SE Florida/Caribbean Vision Awards.
The 1450 Brickell is not only an architectural marvel but a place where companies can do business while making a positive impact on the city and the environment. Nichols Architects has successfully achieved the perfect balance between aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability, creating a landmark that resonates with both tenants and visitors alike.
