Original Nichols design, Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne Scheduled for Renovation –
The iconic oceanfront resort, Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, at 455 Grand Bay Drive in Miami, is preparing for an extensive $100 million renovation project. Originally designed by Nichols Architects, the hotel opened in 2001 (the first luxury resort built in South Florida in over thirty years) and has been a popular destination for travelers and locals, hosting weddings, spa days, and tennis matches.
Temporary Workforce Reduction
Starting between May 1 and May 14, the resort will temporarily suspend operations for 425 staff members as it gears up for a six-month renovation period.
What’s Changing at the Resort
Owned by Miami-based Gencom, the 275,000-square-foot resort spans 13 stories and is renowned for its luxury amenities. The planned upgrades will enhance a wide range of features, including guestroom modernization, enhanced public areas and revitalized dining.
Currently, the property designed by Nichols boasts impressive features such as multiple swimming pools, a tennis center, a spa and fitness center, a club lounge, six dining establishments, 37,000 square feet of event space, and 1,000 feet of beachfront access to Key Biscayne Beach. Additionally, the resort includes 188 condo-hotel units.
While these temporary layoffs are a necessary step in the renovation process, the hotel plans to recall the affected employees once the project is completed. The renovations are expected to position the resort for continued success and to elevate the guest experience significantly.
