This large mixed-use development earned the prestigious LEED ND Silver Plan (Stage 2) Certification in October 2020. A dynamic urban core of diversity and excitement, Miami Worldcenter(MWC) spans several blocks just north of downtown. Located next to American Airlines Arena, the project encompasses more than 10 acres, with modern residential and hospitality spaces and copious street-level retail. MWC includes within the LEED boundary six new buildings, two of which are high-rise residential towers. This world-class destination project also connects directly to the downtown MIA-Mover light-rail line and is a short distance from the Brightline higher-speed rail system at the Miami Central station. The project team worked with the developer to enhance the neighborhood’s walkability, connectivity and street-life experience, as well as to boost energy/water performance and air quality in retail and residential spaces. Overall walkability and connectivity for the project was strengthened with the creation of two main retail promenades, combining nicely with tree-shaded streets surrounding the area and an increased transparency of first-level retail spaces.

This striking 588,000 sf, 35-story, Class A office tower, achieved LEED Gold.1450Brickell was one of first LEED buildings in Miami and became a precedent-setting project. It was at 1450 Brickell that USGBC South Florida and Rob Hink, former GalaVerde Sustainability Legend, gathered a roundtable of developers and government officials to discuss green building and its application in Miami. One of those participants was former Mayor Diaz, who went on to create a framework with local USGBC leadership which ultimately became Miami 21, which requires LEED Silver for all new buildings over 50,000 sf. Developers and municipalities across South Florida have gone on to achieve hundreds of LEED projects as a result of this effort, with 1450 Brickell helping pave the way.
