Famous New York Italian restaurant to open in Nichols designed Loews Miami Beach -South FL Biz Journal
Rao’s Miami Beach is slated to open in the St. Moritz Tower at the Loews hotel complex on Oct. 25. It will fill the space that was previously occupied by Lure Fishbar.
Rao’s opened 127 years ago in Harlem and is one of the oldest family-owned and operated restaurants in the nation. It’s also one of the most difficult places to get a table.
A call to reach Rao’s ownership in New York yielded a voicemail recording that stated its New York location was not accepting any more reservations for 2023.
“Our legacy continues to grow as we bring our passion for food and signature vibe to this new location,” Rao’s co-owner Frank Pellegrino Jr. stated in a release. “It feels like a natural next step for our family, and a place for the people of Miami to call home.”
New York-based Loews Hotels built an 800-room hotel at 1601 Collins Avenue on five acres of land owned by the city of Miami Beach in 1998. Loews contributed $80 million toward the city’s construction while the city provided $60 million. At the time, a new hotel hadn’t been built on Miami Beach since 1967. The hotel was also initially used as a convention hotel for the Miami Beach Convention Center. The Loews Miami Beach was designed by Coral Gables firm Nichols Architects.
